The 2007 MAPCCS Annual Scholarship Program is in full swing. Nearly 1,000 scholarship applications have been sent out to Maryland High Schools and participating member schools. Over $250,000.00 in scholarship awards will be presented by 16 member schools on May 16, 2007. Annual Scholarship Program Reception will again be held at the Baltimore School of Massage.

MAPCCS ONLINE TRAINING WORKSHOP
On Friday, February 23, 2007, MAPCCS will host a professional development workshop to introduce and train new users on our new MAPCCS Online Training Program. The workshop will be held at ComputerTraining.com - Annapolis Junction from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Only 30 seats are available for this program and member schools will have first choice seating. A registration form will be sent to you in the mail. Please send the completed form back to the MAPCCS office as soon as possible.
LEGISLATIVE REPORT
Ron Hansen, Vice-President of MAPCCS and Academic Dean at Lincoln Technical Institute, reported the proposed revised Minimum Requirements for Degree Granting Institutions (COMAR 13B.02.02) lists MAPPCS under definitions as the segmental representative of the "for-profit" career school segment. In other news, Mr. Hansen is the Chairman of the Sub-Commitee to explore the private career and vocational school segment The Sub-Committee will make their recommendations as part of the Governor's Workforce Investment Board (GWIB) Education Industry Committee's final report. GWIB is researching the employment needs within sixteen industries in the state of Maryland.
The Maryland Higher Education Commission meets approximately every other month from September to June at their offices in Annapolis, Maryland. The next Commission Meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at 1:00 pm.

2006 ANNUAL CONFERENCE - "THE SKY IS THE LIMIT"
Over 130 people attended the 2006 Annual Conference held on Friday, December 8, 2006 at the BWI Airport Marriott Hotel in Linthicum, Maryland. This year there were 23 vendors in attendance who showcased their products throughout the day.
Several awards were given during the Opening Session of the Conference. Judy Hendrickson, Director of Academic Affairs, Maryland Higher Education Commission was on hand to present the following:

Informative sessions throughout the day included "Strategies for Enhancing The Educational Experience", "Now That You Have The Lead, How Do You Turn It Into A Start?", "Avoiding Legal Pitfalls", "Managing Conflict, Diversity, Entitlement Issues and Student Expectations In An Institutional Environment", and "TOOLS - Teams Orchestate Outstanding Levels of Synergy".
In addition, the MAPCCS Online Training Center was unveiled at the conference. Amir Moghadama, Ph.D.of MaxKnowledge introduced this new and exciting program that is available for MAPCCS member schools.
The 2007 MAPCCS Annual Conference - "From Then 'Til Now" is schedule for Friday, December 7, 2007 and will once again be held at the BWI Marriott Hotel. Remember in order to receive great discounted registration rates, you must be a MAPCCS member in good standing. We look forward to seeing you in 2007!
JANUARY 19, 2007 MAPCCS GENERAL MEETING
On Friday, January 19, 2007, the first MAPCCS General Meeting of the new year was held at Lincoln Technical Institute in Columbia, Maryland. Fifteen persons were in attendance. President Melody Kelly discussed objectives planned by the Board at the Annual Board Retreat held in December 2006. one of the main areas that will be focused on is membership. It is hoped that the membership will be increased by 20% in the coming year. An update on the Annual Conference, the plans for the Annual Scholarship Program,the financial status of the Association and a Legislative Report were given. The Association is looking for persons to serve on various committees such as Membership and Professional Development. If you or any of your staff would like to serve on a committee, please contact the MAPCCS office.
CCA HILL DAY 2007
The 2007 Hill Day will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 in Washington, D.C. In light of the shift in power on Capitol Hill, it is imperative that the private career school segment voice continue to be recognized and heard.
